Andrew Gristey

A Writer's Pledge

Hello again, sorry to any of you, especially myself that I haven’t really been blogging much for the longest time. Life ends up keeping you busy, and other hardships that I couldn’t follow up on anything. Either that, or really haven’t found anything to get me inspired to write, from personal shenanigans or sharing things. I’m usually a pretty private person as well which doesn’t help things. But, at this point I’m starting too give less of a hoot about that kinda thing and share about it anyway.

To anyone old or new, my name is Andrew, software developer for almost a decade, music listening enthusiast, and love for everything arts & entertainment. A proud Northern Ontarian, that has also grown up with a speech impediment, even to this day. Parts of that did come with mixes of social anxiety, and chronic self-doubt that I’m still getting a handle on even to this day.

As the title of the article suggests, I want to be a writer, the goal is fiction, but I’d be curious to see what ends up coming natural after some dedication to the craft. Since Denis Villeneuve brought Dune to the forefront of people’s consciousness, and was enthralled by Part One that it inspired me to get back into reading, and have been loving the series, and expanded over the years to Foundation, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and others.

Why I want to write, I want to write things that matter to me and/or the people I know. Hopefully to build a closer connection in that way. The reason I’m drawn to the things that I am, for me, the running theme is always catharsis. Either in having a better understanding of myself, or the world and maybe a window into the people around me. Even if I never ended make to that level of cultural relevance, if I could create things that people can find their own comfort and catharsis as a lot of the arts I enjoy have given to me, at the end of the day I’ve done what I’ll be setting out to do.

So as of today, this will be my official pledge to dedicate what I’m gonna give in my life to the pursuit of writing that speak to me, and the people around me. With various stories, about joys & hardship of the human experience, finding pieces people can connect with maybe a romance or two if I’m feel frisky.
